 Silkies Crystal and Blue

My tools... Lion Brand Wool-Ease in colors Wood and Oxford Grey, size N crochet hook, yarn holder, note paper and pen, scissors, and pattern.

I will be creating on these pages a view of my version of the sampler afghan being made in the Lion Brand Crochet Along.  The Lion Brand crochet along is in full force and this is my side of the fun.  I hope to let you all see my progress as I crochet along...

August 30, 08   I have already realized that like most all patterns I feel the need to change it as I go... not by much this time mind you, but a few of the other crocheters ideas sounded good...  As of this writing I have but only one block done... but they do work up fast, so more are soon to come.  The first change was the yarn, I am using wool-ease in Wood, and Oxford Grey instead of Fishermans Wool yarn in natural.  I have found that the size N hook works up closer to the required 8 X10 block for me.

August 31, 08  My trial block of ridges on one side is done.  I like the way half ridged - half not looks as well... it makes up lighter than the orignal pattern of doubleridges, decided to make 5 of each type using the  wood and the grey... the colors go well together.  as of this sitting I have no idea how I am going to use the colors, except to maybe equal balance them...I think...

Ok, here it is sept. 7th, and I have grown unfriendly to the idea of the grey blocks... so they are being put to the side for my trial and error swatch and gauge afghan that can only be finished when I finish enough other things... I am using the grey for joining and edging...

A pillow front and 2 practice strips (scarves?)

This is block one. I am splitting the colors between Wood and Oxford Grey, 5 of each color.  The five blocks of Wood are as the pattern states.  The 5 blocks of Oxford Grey are a mod version using bl and fl to have ridges only on one side, I reversed, putting the ridges to the otherside halfway through.  The pic does not show as well as it looks... Thank you to scrambledeggs for the idea...

This is how I am going to join the blocks together... I am pretty sure I have put the wrong side to the right side, but I think the ridge it creates goes with the look of blocks 1 and 2, and using the same cluster for it ties in block 3... I used the same N size, but I am going to try it in a smaller size hook...
